Traveling to Mayotte since January 5, Marine Le Pen, who has just lost her father, Jean-Marie Le Pen, was involved in an accident that occurred during a barge trip between Grande-Terre and Petite-Terre.

The collision, which took place this Tuesday, January 7, resulted in three minor injuries, but the president of the National Rally emerged unscathed.

The incident occurred when two barges, one carrying Marine Le Pen and the other arriving in the opposite direction, collided. According to Saidali Boina Hamissi, departmental delegate of the RN, “we don’t know what happened, they got into it”.

He specified on BFMTV that “the vast majority of people found themselves on the ground”, but that Marine Le Pen “remained seated, clinging to her chair”. Among the injured, one person was reported to have suffered slight discomfort, but no serious consequences were reported.

This trip takes place in a tense context for the island, which is still struggling to recover from the devastating passage of Cyclone Chido on December 14.

With gusts reaching 220 km/h, the category 4 cyclone left deep scars: thousands of victims, 39 deaths and more than 4,000 injured. Infrastructure is still heavily impacted, complicating travel and daily life for residents.

Marine Le Pen is not the first political figure to go there since the disaster. Emmanuel Macron, followed by several members of the government, also visited the island, but certain positions have attracted criticism. Marine Le Pen’s stay in Mayotte aims to show her support for the local population. Despite this incident, she was able to reach the airport and continue her agenda.
