The preliminary hearing in the case against the “military and political leaders” of Artsakh illegally detained in Baku has been set for January 17, the Azerbaijani news agency APA reports.
“Criminal cases against Artsakh’s military and political leadership were transferred to court in mid-December.”
Charges were brought against former Presidents of Artsakh Arkady Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, Arayik Harutyunyan, former Minister of State Ruben Vardanyan, Speaker of the National Assembly Davit Ishkhanyan, Advisor to the President of Artsakh Davit Babayan, former Defense Army Commander Levon Mnatsakanyan and former Deputy Defense Army Commander Davit Manukyan. Garik Martirosyan, Melikset Pashayan, Davit Alaverdyan, Gurgen Stepanyan, Levon Balayan, Madat Babayan, Vasily Beglaryan and Erik Ghazaryan.
They are accused of “planning and conducting a war of aggression, genocide, extermination of the population, slavery, deportation, torture, mercenary activity, terrorism and the creation of a criminal organization.”
The Azerbaijani prosecutor’s office “called on Armenian law enforcement agencies to cooperate, taking into account the fact that many suspects and witnesses are on Armenian territory.”
