New leader in the motorcycle trunk category

Distanced by almost four minutes in the middle of the special on Sunday by his number one rival, the Romanian Emanuel Gyenes, the Courlanais had an excellent end to the stage to finish just ten seconds behind his opponent. Yes but. Following a missed way point, Gyenes received a fifteen-minute penalty. Beneficial for the Jura.

“It was a very tough stage, over two days. I had already done 600 kilometers on Sunday evening but I had to finish today (this Monday). I am very happy with how I rode, I got back on Gyenes well,” he commented after 947 kilometers of effort. In the ranking, Benjamin Melot finished 31st, which allowed him to grab three positions overall and find himself 32nd.

“Don’t get excited, the race is long”

Thanks to the penalty from his main competitor, the Courlanais takes the lead in the motorcycle trunk category with a little over nine minutes ahead of his runner-up. A final victory which, barring a twist, should be played out between the two competitors since Jérôme Martigny, third, already 59 minutes behind Melot, who remains focused. “It’s a good thing, I’m happy. Now we must not get excited, the race is long. I feel good, the bike feels good. I twisted a disc at the start of the special, the bike started to heat up but I managed to get through it. Everything is going well but there are still some big days left,” he concludes.
