Norwegian Magnus Carlsen and his partner Ella Victoria Malone exchanged vows. Recently, Carlsen had already made a name for himself during the World Speed and Blitz Championship.
Famous Norwegian chess player Magnus Carlsen married his partner Ella Victoria Malone in a ceremony at Holmenkollen Chapel, located northwest of Oslo, as reported by broadcaster NRK and other Norwegian media . On the occasion, the 34-year-old was dressed in a suit and bow tie, while his partner, eight years younger, sported a white wedding dress with lace at the neck, arms and neckline.
After the ceremony, a reception took place at the Grand Hotel, located in the heart of Oslo, famous for hosting Norway’s Nobel Peace Prize laureates each year. According to NRK, a Netflix team accompanied the couple before and during the wedding.
First public appearance in Germany
Carlsen and Malone were first photographed together in February 2024 at a tournament on the Gut Weißenhaus estate in Schleswig-Holstein. In May, Malone confirmed their relationship. Since then, this young woman from Oslo, daughter of a Norwegian and an American, has accompanied the chess grandmaster to several tournaments, including recently at the World Rapid and Blitz Championship in New York.
At this event, Carlsen once again caused a stir: first by withdrawing from the speed tournament as defending champion following a controversy over illegal denim pants. Then he shared the blitz title with Russian Ian Nepomniachtchi, the match not restarting after a score of 3.5 to 3.5. This led to accusations of fraud, as some claimed he discussed a draw before the final, off the board. Carlsen has denied the allegations.
