Victorious over Lazio Rome on Sunday evening (2-0, 19th round of Serie A), AS Rome won a derby held in its enclosure. La Louve, however, remains out of contention in the race for Europe.

That’s already taken. Failing to have a good season in Serie A, AS Roma won the highly contested capital derby on Sunday evening. A duel still very electric, as evidenced by the numerous acts of anti-play, the nine yellow cards issued as well as this late red sent by the referee Luca Pairetto to Castellanos (90th + 5), at the end of a revealing final brawl of the general atmosphere. A duel which had, well before that, quickly turned to the advantage of the locals.

Without Gigot (substitute), but with two ex-Marseil players (Guendouzi and Tavares), the Biancocelesti were shaken from the start by Koné’s partners and the French international lit the first fuse, from 15 meters, stumbling on a Provedel applied in his cage (3rd). Despite the 15 points that separated the two clubs before the Sunday match, a huge gap to the disadvantage of Claudio Ranieri’s players, the latter continued to attack to take the lead in the tenth minute. A curled ball from Pellegrini ended in the top corner and started the match perfectly (1-0, 10th).

Lazio messed up a lot

A few moments later, it was the center forward Dovbyk who used his body play to allow Dybala then Saelemaekers to continue, the last named then deceiving Provedel after a first save from the Italian goalkeeper (2-0, 18th ). Less sovereign in the second half, and more in management with this two-goal lead, La Louve fell back a lot and often scared herself.

For example, she was able to count twice on the talent of her last rampart Slivar, the Serbian goalkeeper in turn repelling the on-target and dangerous strikes from Guendouzi (50th) and Castellanos (69th). The former Benfica player was then very happy to see Tavares’ dry strike go just wide, for what constituted the last clear opportunity of the match (79th).

In the rankings, this prestigious success leaves AS Rome in tenth place, now 12 lengths behind Lazio Rome (4th), and this qualifying place for the next C1 seems more precarious than ever for the Biancocelesti. Juventus Turin (5th) and Fiorentina (6th) have a game in hand and would dislodge Marco Baroni’s players from the top 4 if successful. However, they will have to dominate Atalanta Bergamo (2nd) and Inter Milan (3rd) respectively, on the occasion of an Italian champion who could not be more indecisive this season.
