No truce from confectioners for drivers. Police checks are intensifying, day and night.

“It’s necessary,” warns the police commissioner about an operation which took place during the night from Friday to Saturday, at the Grand Rond in the center of Toulouse.

A check of passing motorists to check whether some had abused alcohol or other prohibited products while driving. “In thirty minutes, sixteen drivers were subject to detailed inspection,” warns the commissioner.

Among them, a man tested positive for alcohol, but also under the effects of narcotics and whose driving license, after checks, was not valid. This boy ended his night sober while awaiting the prosecution which will be decided by the prosecution.

Bad road safety figures

During the holiday period, the police increased operations targeting drivers. The police officers from the departmental road safety unit, their biker colleagues from the CRS but also the Border Police pilot who monitored, from the sky on board the PAF plane, the various excesses noted in particular on the Toulouse ring road. Violations of excessive speed, failure to respect safety distances, overtaking on the right or “far too much use of cell phones while driving”, noted the police, were thus fined.

Efforts which will continue with the start of the school year, encouraged by the prefecture, which is obliged to note the poor road safety figures in Haute-Garonne with increases in all categories: number of accidents, injuries and deaths.

Before the December figures were consolidated, at least 52 people lost their lives on the roads of Haute-Garonne in 2024 – including 24 users of motorized two-wheelers (motorcycles, scooters) or bicycles. And a 38-year-old man lost his life on the morning of January 1 after violently hitting a Tisséo bus on Chemin Tecou.
