Two ATP Challenger tournaments confirmed in Tenerife at the beginning of February in Abama!

Top-level returns to the Canary Islands, which are set to become the heart of the ATP Challenger circuit for two weeks. From February 2 to 16, the hard courts of the Abama Tennis Academy will be the scene of two ATP Challenger 75 tournaments. MEF Tennis Events is delighted to organize these events in Tenerife, a charming destination which has introduced many new talents to make himself known on the world circuit in recent seasons.

Appreciated by athletes for its climate, its facilities, as well as its organization, Tenerife thus regains its place among the essential stages of this category, with professionals competing to win these precious trophies and show their best tennis. This promises to attract many fans to this destination during the winter season.

In addition, an increase in prize money is planned for 2025, with $100,000 at stake for each event, thus strengthening the prestige of these two competitions. An agreement has also been established between MEF Tennis Events and the Canarian Tennis Federation, which will provide two invites to allow the best players from the islands to participate. In addition, all Real Federación Española de Tenis licensees and players from clubs in the archipelago will benefit from a 50% discount on tickets and weekly passes. Kids Days will also be organized for young spectators.

The enthusiasm of the Canarian Tennis Federation

Having organized 12 ATP Challenger tournaments and 1 WTA 250, recognized as the best tournament in the world in its category in 2021, MEF Tennis Events and the Canary Islands continue to work closely together. This success delights the Canarian Tennis Federation, as indicated by its president, José Sepúlveda: “The initiative led by Marcello Marchesini benefits not only the players on the court, but also all the fans who attend the tournaments. I am thinking in particular of the great players who have graced these courts, like Brandon Nakashima, who, after his victory, entered the world Top 50.”

With great satisfaction, Sepúlveda also highlighted the importance of the wild card program: “During the 2025 tournaments, some young people will have the opportunity to live and participate in a Challenger circuit. This experience will be offered to adolescents who have already proven themselves on a national and international scale; it will be a privilege for them.”

Regarding the state of the Federation, Sepúlveda specifies: “The data shows that we are on the right track. Canarian tennis has a great tradition with figures such as David Marrero and Carla Suárez Navarro. I am convinced that all the conditions are in place for new players to reach the highest levels of the ATP and WTA circuits.”

The setting for the competitions will once again be the Abama Tennis Academy, in Guía de Isora, a venue which, in addition to its high-level tennis courts, is recognized for its hotels Las Terrazas de Abama Suites and Los Jardines de Abama Suites, its refined gastronomy, as well as a shopping center offering numerous dining, wellness and leisure options. Young people will also have access to an outdoor Kids Camp, not forgetting the prestigious golf course designed by Dave Thomas, which is enjoying growing popularity among players on the ATP circuit.

MEF Tennis Events returns to Tenerife

At the end of 2020, in the midst of a pandemic, MEF Tennis decided to embark on a daring project. Bringing top-level tennis back to the Canary Islands! According to Marcello Marchesini: “Five years later, I am proud to see that this ambition was viable. Over the last five years, thanks to the support of the local authorities and in particular the Tenerife Tourist Office and the Canary Islands Government, we have organized 12 ATP Challenger tournaments in the archipelago and a WTA 25, awarded as the best tournament in the world in its category. Our main objectives now are, firstly, to help the RFET and specifically the FCT to quickly develop new local talents who, thanks to the invitation options to these tournaments, will be able to take their first steps in professional tennis. Then, promote the wonderful nature and leisure tourism offer of the island of Tenerife during all the events that we will organize in Italy in 2025, to raise even more awareness of this destination which is particularly close to our hearts.”
