Fire at Narbonne waste sorting center brought under control

A fire broke out this Friday, January 3, 2025, around 4 a.m., at the sorting center. Around noon, only a small rescue team remained monitoring a fire which caused no casualties.

This Friday, January 3, a fire broke out at the Narbonne sorting center on the RD 6009, route de , around 4 a.m. A very large amount of smoke was escaping from the Ecopole storage shed.

Significant resources were dispatched by firefighters from Narbonne and surrounding barracks to the scene to bring the disaster under control. In total, around forty firefighters were on site in the morning.

Smoke was visible and a very long operation was planned. According to initial analyses, the fumes proved to be bothersome but not dangerous and did not hinder traffic. A person, slightly inconvenienced by the smoke, was examined by firefighters. She does not show signs of intoxication, indicates the Aude prefecture.

At the end of the morning, the fire was under control and the progress is considered favorable.

Around 3:30 p.m., Olivier Courquin, site manager, added: “The majority of emergency services have left the Ecopole. A small team remained in case the fire restarts. No damage has been noted at the moment on the building.” The origin of the disaster appears to be an element, such as a telephone battery, hence the importance of rigorous sorting. “I can’t say what caused the fire to start, but it must be something like this.”confirms the manager.
