As 2024 comes to an end, it's time to look back at what made the news on Objectif this year. In November/December, the trucks of the Gard Food Bank were set on fire, the Cora d'Alès became a Carrefour, a dramatic accident occurred at the Pôle Mécanique d'Alès, the government was censored and the Ateliers de Nîmes faced Lacoste .

At the end of November, in the middle of the night, the six refrigerated trucks from the Gard Food Bank went up in smoke at the Gare Marketin Nîmes. An arson attack, which provokes a wave of indignation, followed very closely by a surge of solidarity: many communities, businesses and state services will pitch in to support the association, as close as possible to those who need it.

After the Casino supermarkets a few weeks earlier, in mid-November it was Cora's turn to change brands. The only Cora in our department, in Alès, has thus become a Carrefourafter 38 years under the same brand. At the same time, a few kilometers further north, a dramatic accident occurred on the Pôle Mécanique d'Alès circuit, causing the death of two men on board an Alpine when it left the road.

Also in November, Objectif Gard revealed to you, with supporting documents, that the new gendarmerie of Pont-Saint-Esprit had been built on land subject to a risk of flooding by runoff knowingly, without the necessary measures having been taken. Oops. A few days later, Objectif Gard also revealed thata job protection plan would hit the Royal Canin Aimargues sitewith around a hundred positions threatened.

Meanwhile, the anger of the farmers resumed, less than a year after the takeover on the A9, with several punch operations in Nîmes. Not yet enough to become a chestnut tree, unlike the crèche at Beaucaire town hall, which has once again created controversy this year, because always contrary to the principle of secularism. Except that this time, Mayor RN Nelson Chaudon invited his population to speak out during a vote. Very largely in favor of maintaining the crèche, this vote however has no legal value.

On December 4, the government of Michel Barnier was overthrown following the adoption of the motion of censure tabled by Insoumise, and voted for by the entire left and by the deputies of the National Rally. Enough to provoke a wave of reactions, notably local elected officials. It remains to be seen whether the Bayrou government, appointed just before Christmas, will last longer.

At the end of the year, we witnessed a match between the crocodile brand and a Croco brand: in fact, Lacoste contested the use of the crocodile, even though it was accompanied by the palm tree, by the brand Les Ateliers de Nîmes . Finally, in mid-December, a compromise was foundand the Ateliers de Nîmes will be able to continue to use the Nîmes coat of arms, as long as the crocodile does not appear alone, so as not to create confusion. But in the Gard everyone knows it: the crocodile is indeed Nîmes.
