Information known yesterday and relayed by several media seems to justify this boost: in 2024, France broke its record for exporting electricity to Europe with 89 TWh against 77 TWh in 2022 (very inflationary year with the war in Ukraine, which forced the government to put in place the famous “tariff shield”), report THE Echoes. Difficult in this context to justify a new increase.
However, there is a downside: if you have subscribed to a contract other than that at the regulated rate, supposed to protect households against market fluctuations, or at the indexed rate, you will not be able to benefit from the reduction. In theory only.
Indeed reports MoneyVox, it is possible at any time to change your contract, free of charge. This even if you had renounced the TRV (regulated electricity sales tariff): you can subscribe to it again to benefit from the reduction.
To do this, All you have to do is contact EDF customer service or that of your local supplier. It will only take a few minutes. Paradoxically, this gesture which will delight millions of French people hides an increase: in taxes.
A drop despite the end of the tariff shield
As mentioned above, this price shield was put in place in 2022 because prices literally exploded after the start of the war in Ukraine, which had put many individuals, and especially professionals, in difficulty.
-It no longer exists, and megawatt-hour tax will go back up on 1 is February to 33.70 euros compared to 22 today, that is to say at its pre-shield level. The 14% drop will therefore come as a counterbalance.
Less 14% but not for everyone!
As MoneyVox reminds us, this rate could “vary depending on the options chosen” (Tempo, off-peak hours, base). “The impact for each of these offers will therefore be calculated once the average reduction has been formally and definitively fixed, taking into account all the parameters”, detailed to our colleagues the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) .
We will therefore have to wait until we know the new regulated amount to estimate the savings to be made. But don't delay: according to the magazine Capital, the TRV, specific to France, could disappear soon.
