Foie gras, smoked salmon, logs or candied chestnuts… After the sumptuous end-of-year holiday meals, the month of January promises to be just as delicious. It’s not time for a food detox, but for tasting the new Galettes des Rois. From January 6, Epiphany Day, the frangipane dessert takes over bakery shelves. Revisited with matcha, chocolate, orange… pastry chefs compete in imagination to reinvent this great classic of French pastry.
What’s new? For several years, fashion has also celebrated Epiphany by partnering with renowned pastry chefs. Brands are thus revealing their own versions of the Galette des Rois. Dior, Balzac, Jonak or even Louis Vuitton… Discover the 4 most stylish galettes des Rois signed by fashion houses.
The Galette des Rois from Dior
Dior unveils a Galette des Rois imagined by chef Jean Imbert and his collaborator Romuald Bizart. Composed of hazelnut and almond frangipane, the pastry is made with delicate Dior cannage worked in a crispy pastry. Inside are hidden glass beans, meticulously hand-painted, alternately adorned with the lucky symbols of the Dior house: a star, a four-leaf clover, a bee or even a rose, objects of desire to collect. The galette des Rois (6-8 people) is available to order from January 3 to January 19 at the price of €80 at the Pâtisserie Dior at 30 Montaigne.
The Galette des Rois from Jonak
For the second year in a row, Jonak, in collaboration with the Tranché bakeries, has imagined a galette des Rois inspired by their best-seller, the Brookie. This exclusive frangipane creation is twisted with 62% cocoa and large chunks of pecans. We recognize it in particular thanks to the all-chocolate shortbread which adorns the top of this delicious cake. The good surprise? If the bean takes the form of a small shopping bag, it allows you to be offered the pair of shoes of your choice in Jonak stores. The Chocolate-Pécan, to be tasted from January 2, 2025 in limited edition, €25 (4 people) €34 (6 people).
The Galette des Rois from Balzac Paris
Balzac Paris and Maison Méert are joining forces once again to celebrate Epiphany with elegance and indulgence. Every Saturday in January, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Parisian boutiques offer a tasting of exceptional Galette des Rois. These gourmet creations are also available in the Maison Méert boutique in limited quantities (only 15 pancakes are on sale each Saturday), at 29, rue Debelleyme in Paris, (€35). Attention ! Among one of these pancakes is a golden ticket offering precious surprises such as a €100 voucher usable in store or on the Balzac Paris website, or a box of six Maison Méert mini waffles.
The Galette des Rois from Louis Vuitton
Maxime Frédéric revisits the traditional Galette des rois by giving it an irresistible chocolate touch. The frangipane cream, a mixture of a creamy Madagascar vanilla pastry cream and an almond cream with raw almond powder, coats a thin puck of dark Madagascar chocolate ganache (40%), with chocolate from Vietnam (75%) and Tonka bean. The Viennese puff pastry, subtly chocolatey thanks to the addition of cocoa powder, brings the final touch to this gourmet creation. This creation will be available for click and collect from the end of December at Le Chocolat Maxime Frédéric at Louis Vuitton at 26 quai de la Mégisserie. 30€ (3 people), 58€ (6 people).
The Kooples Galette des Rois
The Kooples and the Copains bakeries have imagined a unique galette des rois in the rock chic DNA of the brand. This frangipane, dark chocolate, vegan and gluten-free creation promises to shake up traditions. Heritage beans will be hidden in a few pancakes. The lucky ones will be offered a €250 voucher to spend in The Kooples stores. Available in all Copains settings and studios from January 2 and for pre-order from December 26.
