Fatou Kiné Faye, head of the communications office of the Directorate for the Promotion of Good Governance at the Ministry of Justice and women’s rights activist, reacted following the murder of Souadou Sow, better known as Diary. This 12-year-old girl died in tragic circumstances. According to the first elements of the investigation, the alleged murderer attempted to rape the victim before killing her. To combat such acts, Madame Faye believes that the State should consider the castration of rapists in order to eradicate rape in Senegal. This is what she said during her appearance on the show Midikeng on Pressafrik.

The reason given by this women’s rights activist is to go further than criminalizing rape. To this end, she asked the State of Senegal to go beyond this law by adopting a more drastic form of punishment, namely “castration.”

“In Senegal it is clear that the law has indeed criminalized rape, but that is not enough,” she declared.

The women’s rights activist believes that “surgical and chemical castration will have more impact than the simple criminalization of rape.” Hence the importance of considering this more repressive form of sanction which, according to her, will serve as a lesson to rapists and sexual predators.
