A few weeks after his coronation at the 2024 Ballon d’Or ceremony, Man City player Rodri made a strong announcement regarding his club.
The Spaniard from Man City was elected Ballon d’Or 2024 to everyone’s surprise. While all the polls gave Vinicius Jr the winner, it was rather the reigning European champion who was awarded the prize.
After his coronation, the Spanish midfielder brought his trophy to the Etihad stadium to present it to the fans. The player was then pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere that reigned there.
“I spoke with Mateo Kovacic. He has already experienced Ballon d’Or celebrations at Real Madrid, but he told me he had never seen anything like this”he first declared.
According to him, the feelings of former Real Madrid player Mateo Kovacic should be taken seriously. Given that the latter had already experienced Cristiano Ronaldo’s Ballon d’Or receptions, his opinion counts double.
Then, the Man City player weaved laurels for his club. “Very few places treat players like Man City do. I will be forever grateful to them for what they did”.

Rodri, the most controversial Ballon d’Or
This coronation of Rodri then created a big controversy throughout the world of Football. Real Madrid even boycotted the ceremony and the France Football organization was violently criticized.
Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo also took a dig at Man City player Rodri. During the Globe Soccer Award ceremony, the Madeira native claimed that Vinicius was the real winner of the award.
““For me, Vinicius would have deserved to win the Ballon d’Or. It was unfair. I say it here in front of everyone”he declared. The Sky Blues midfielder did not hesitate to respond to Cristiano Ronaldo. For his part, the current Al-Nasrr player would simply be jealous. To hear Rodri, it is the same panel which voted for Cristiano Ronaldo’s Ballon d’Or which also voted for him.
