In a way, used car sales professionals are winning in fiscal 2024. According to AAA Data, they increased the number of their transactions by 6.9% compared to the previous year. reaching 1,933,999 returns to the road.

Beyond the volume, in a market growing by 3.1%, to 5.354 million units, brands of all kinds have gained penetration. They actually ended the year with 36.1% of the used car sector pie. Compared to 2023, they therefore improve performance by 0.9 points to the detriment of exchanges between individuals.

The core range played its role

Resellers have been able to take advantage of the resurgence in recent used car segments. Products aged less than 24 months have jumped in volume, reaching a cumulative share of almost 20% in store activities. With these cars, professionals achieved 7.2% of the overall French market in 2024.

Just as solid in terms of growth, the segments of cars 2-5 years old (+6.4%, to just under 650,000 units) and 6-10 years old (+11.5%, to 440,300 units ) weighed heavily in the balance. In addition to jointly exceeding 56% in distributor sales, these two categories respectively total 12.1% and 8.2% of the French market shares.

Aged models remain at CtoC

Beyond this age limit, professionals play an anecdotal role in the entire used car market. Their penetration is limited to 8.6%. And this is due to the fact that in the 11-15 year old market, BtoC shows a drop of 7.6%, to less than 217,000 units. CtoC lost 2.4% at the same time, with fewer than 808,000 resales.

However, old copies still constitute a working basis for brands. In fact, they account for a little more than 23% of point-of-sale activity. Which is incommensurable with the CtoC scores in this area. Moreover, almost six out of ten transactions carried out between individuals concern a used car 11 years old or more (36.1% are over 16 years old).
