Canada collapses in quarter-final to Czechia

Canada faced the Czech Republic this evening in a one-off match to advance to the semi-final of the World Junior Championship.

After unconvincing qualifying matches for Team Canada, the trend continued during this match, at least until the end of the 2nd period.

The team of Dave Cameron came out on top for the third period, trailing 3 to 2, after two periods of being disoriented and very unthreatening.

After a disallowed goal, the Canada coach requested a review which cost his team 2 minutes after being refused and with good reason. A questionable decision by Canada that disrupted the team’s momentum.

Bradly Nadeau finally managed to score with 4 minutes left, tying the game.

Andrew Gibson then got a penalty with 2 minutes left. A questionable decision (to be polite).

Czechia finally scored the winning goal with 40 seconds left in the game, eliminating Canada in the round of 16.

The efforts made at the end of the match were not enough and frankly it makes you wonder why this team did not put in as much intensity before the end of tonight’s match.

There is no point in blaming the referees for tonight’s match, the Canadian team will have to look in the mirror and admit that the performances were simply not there.
