Dries Mertens played through the senior teams at RSC Anderlecht from 1998 to 2003, when he was still very young. Sporting did not keep it but it does not hold it against them.
In view of the three-star services of Dries Mertens (37 years old) with Galatasaray, and the words of the player himself who has often ruled out the idea of a return to Belgium, RSC Anderlecht supporters should not really be dreaming. The former (?) Red Devil is not expected to return to Sporting anytime soon, where he wore the colors from 1998 to 2003 in the youth teams.
But a Mertens will perhaps play for Anderlecht one day, even if we will have to wait a little. Dries’ son Ciro Mertens is just two years old… and was recently filmed kissing the crest on his RSCA jersey.
