The Sacramento Kings have been a disappointment this season. The investment in DeMar DeRozan has yet to produce the expected results. Additionally, De’Aaron Fox rejected a contract extension, and coach Mike Brown was fired a few days ago. However, the team remains hopeful for their campaign. According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Kings are considering a trade for Cam Thomas.
Thomas is the star player of the Brooklyn Nets. This season, he is averaging 24.7 points, 3.5 assists and 3.4 rebounds. Nonetheless, his stay with the Nets is not expected to last beyond the NBA trade deadline, as the team looks to continue its rebuilding phase following the trades of Dennis Schroder and Dorian Finney-Smith. Additionally, the shooting guard is not expected to renew his contract, which runs until the end of the 2024/25 season.

Against this backdrop, the Kings are eager to invest in a trade for Cam Thomas. According to Scotto, this move could be seen as a “desperate attempt” to save the team’s season.
“Following the firing of Mike Brown, the experiment with DeMar DeRozan is not working as planned. Additionally, concerns remain regarding De’Aaron Fox’s dissatisfaction after turning down a contract extension. As a result, teams in the league are monitoring the Kings to see if a trade will be made,” the reporter reported.
However, the Nets shooting guard isn’t the only player Sacramento is targeting. The profile is clear: an offensively talented fullback. According to ESPN, the franchise is also keeping tabs on Zach Lavine, Kyle Kuzma and Cameron Johnson.

“With five weeks until the trade deadline, the new coach must turn things around. If he fails, the Kings should make a trade in an attempt to salvage the season, using future first-round picks Kevin Huerter and Trey Lyles,” Scotto concluded.
On Wednesday night, the Kings beat the Philadelphia 76ers after falling behind by nine points in the final three minutes. It was their second victory in three games under the direction of Doug Christie.
“We asked them to defend on the next possessions. There were three possessions we had to defend to stop the 76ers offense. Then we won after a 15-0 run. I couldn’t be happier for them,” Christie said.
Despite this, the team only won 15 out of 34 games, ranking 12th in the Western Conference.
As they look for reinforcements, the Kings are also working to retain De’Aaron Fox. The franchise’s leading scorer rejected a $165 million extension offer. The move fueled rumors regarding his possible departure from the team.

However, Fox said he wanted to continue with the California team. Still, the franchise would need to meet certain conditions, such as showing positive projection direction, for him to consider renewing his contract.
“It depends on our team and the direction we go. I want to make sure we are able to try to win in the future, because that’s what I want to do. I know I will win my life wherever I play or whatever I do,” he said.
