Philippe Clement will be able to breathe a little. Glasgow Rangers crushed Celtic in the Old Firm, which looked like a last chance match for the Belgian manager.
Philippe Clement has been under particularly intense pressure in recent weeks. After two games without a win in the league and defeat in the Scottish League Cup final, Rangers badly needed a victory against Celtic this Thursday to start the year.
Fortunately for Clément, after a little less than 10 minutes of play, two former Pro League players had already resolved the situation. Ianis Hagi opened the scoring with an assist from former Standard captain Nicolas Raskin.
Raskin, holder, was also captain for this Old Firm, a first under Clément. After difficult months, the ex-Rouche is gaining momentum. However, Rangers had to wait until the hour mark to make the break.
Robin Propper followed a shot from Hagi, again, on Kasper Schmeichel. On the Celtic side, Arne Engels only came on in the 75th minute of play. The 3-0 was scored a few minutes later by Danilo, sealing the score and offering Philippe Clément his first Old Firm.
The end of the match was marked by some excesses, of which Engels was also the victim, who received a coin on the face and had a bruise to end the match. With this result, Rangers return to 11 points behind the leader.
