It’s been almost a year since Maserati announced a significant delay in the launch of its new models. Among those expected: the new Levante SUV, planned for 2027, and the new generation Quattroporte, expected for 2028. If the suspense remains intact in the absence of official information, the future Quattroporte luxury sedan could make a shift in its design.
The Quattroporte: a “revolutionary car” according to the ex-CEO
When Davide Grasso, the former CEO of Maserati (replaced in November 2024 by Santo Ficili), announced almost a year ago that the new Quattroporte would be “redesigned to be one of a kind”. Grasso went on to point out that Maserati had conducted an “in-depth analysis of the automotive market,” noting “rapid and radical changes.” His goal was clear: “To create a revolutionary car that redefines the concept of luxury. »
But despite these announcements, little information has filtered out regarding the details of this car long awaited by dealers and customers.
A radical change of style?
According to our information, it is very possible thatThe future Quattroporte abandons its classic sedan design in favor of a fastback stylea change in silhouette which would not be surprising in the current context of the automobile industry. Indeed, a sportier and more aerodynamic Quattroporte, resembling a large hatchback, could find itself facing models like la Porsche Taycana direct competitor in the electric sports luxury segment.
Nor would it be without recall the Jaguar Type 00 concepta model which also revealed this fastback body. The Quattroporte’s move to a fastback design would also offer a more practical alternative to the old trunk configuration. The hatchback trunk, more functional and adapted to modern needs, would blend better into the sporty line of the future model.
The change of style is not the only reason for this delay
If the question of design remains central, it does not seem to be the main reason for the delay in the launch of this new Quattroporte. In reality, other constraints such as the marketing positioning of the brand and technical reasons such as the choice of platform (STLA Large or Giorgio evo) and electrical technologies are probably at the origin of the delays. Especially since the future Quattroporte and the Ghibli will now be merged into a single model, there is therefore no question of missing the marketing positioning of the brand’s only sedan. Note that at Porsche, we are thinking of a different strategy by wanting to offer a Porsche Taycan (4.9 m) and the future electric Porsche Panamera (5.2 m) at the same time.
But 2028 still seems a long way away to discover the new Maserati Quattroporte. Remember that Maserati must quickly present a structured and impactful product plan. Let’s hope that Maserati’s product plan lives up to the ambitions.
