The Vietnamese Ministry of Defense organized a ceremony on Thursday, January 2, to hand over the decisions of the President of the Republic to eight officers who will take up their duties in the United Nations missions in South Sudan (UNMISS) and the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

Director of Vietnam's Department of Peacekeeping Operations Pham Manh Thang stressed that the eight soldiers received methodological training and met the requirements of the UN and the Ministry of Defense.

Congratulating the military, Deputy Defense Minister Hoang Xuân Chien, who is also head of the Defense Ministry's Steering Committee on Participation in UN Peacekeeping Operations, stressed that the military forces' contributions Vietnamese peacekeepers have helped promote the image of the country and the Vietnamese People's Army internationally.

He demanded that these soldiers confidently demonstrate their bravery and professional abilities in front of their international colleagues; as well as promote the spirit of self-determination to overcome all difficulties and help each other to perform assigned tasks well.

Stating that they are all outstanding officers in the army, he noted that Vietnam is proud to have female officers in UN peacekeeping operations and is striving to increase the participation of women in these missions.

To date, Vietnam has sent nearly 1,100 officers and personnel to participate in UN peacekeeping activities. The Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations is currently preparing to establish the 4e military engineering unit and the 7e level 2 field hospital which will be deployed by 2025.
