This is incredible news, in the literal sense of the word. “One of the longest investigations in history” has just been resolved in the United Kingdom: a woman has been found safe and sound, no less than 52 years after her disappearance. This Wednesday morning, January 1, 2025, West Midlands County Police announced the end of investigations into the case of Sheila Fox, a teenager who disappeared in 1972 in the town of Coventry, east of Birmingham. At the time, the idea of ​​a runaway was favored, with the young woman maintaining a relationship with an older man. And despite significant resources deployed, the police were unable to find the slightest trace of Sheila Fox. 52 years later, it was thanks to yet another call for witnesses that the investigation was able to reach a successful outcome. “We searched for every piece of evidence we could find and we managed to find a photo of Sheila,” said Detective Sergeant Jenna Shaw, a member of the West Police cold case team. Midlands, in a press release.

This photo, dating from the time of the disappearance, was therefore used to launch a final call for witnesses this Sunday, December 29, 2024. Taken in black and white, and of poor quality, we can barely detect the face of the young daughter then aged 16.
