Djokovic and Murray’s never-ending friendship: ‘I haven’t hurt myself yet’

The start of the collaboration between Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray seems rather promising, at least because of the excellent atmosphere between the two. The Serbian, holder of 24 Grand Slam titles, chose to call on the former British player to train him at the start of 2025, even if, during the ATP 250 in Brisbane, where he currently plays, Murray is not yet alongside his protégé. This first phase of their collaboration will extend until after the Australian Open, when they will decide how to continue their association.

After easily winning his first match against Rinky Hijikata, the Belgrade player spoke of his new coach with humor. “He’s skiing right now. He is traveling with his family, I send them all my love. I hope he doesn’t get hurt from skiing before he comes to Melbourne, that wouldn’t be ideal,”said Djokovic, who has always had a good relationship with Murray. “We spoke before the match and we stay in touch daily. I’m delighted to have him on my team, in my corner. For 20 years he was on the other side of the net and for the first time he is on my side. It promises to be fun in Melbourne”he added, as he sets his sights on securing the title for his 100th career victory in Brisbane.

Shortly after, Murray responded to Djokovic with a post on X, where he is seen skiing down a small slope. “I’m enjoying some incredible hills, as you can see, but I haven’t had any accidents yet,”joked Andy, known for his humor. After Djokovic’s competition in Brisbane, the two men will meet in Melbourne to finalize preparations for Nole’s challenge at the Australian Open (January 12-26). This tournament could mark the 25th Grand Slam title of a legendary career, which now begins a new phase under Murray’s tutelage.
