It’s a date that could go down in the history books. A milestone in a reversal of trend that began at the start of the conflict in Ukraine, in February 2022. Since January 1, no more molecules of Russian gas have passed through the country of Volodymyr Zelensky, where the last gas pipeline which carried methane is located ( the real name of Russian gas) in Europe. To empty Russian coffers, kyiv did not renew a contract signed in 2019 which expired on Wednesday.
Russia, which supplied 40% of the gas consumed in Europe before the war, now only supplies around ten percent, mainly in liquefied form (LNG). The Ukrainian gas pipeline was for a long time the only gas connection between Russia and Europe, before other routes appeared.
