Once is not customary, the night of the New Year’s Eve was hot Abbeville (Sum). To celebrate the new year, some young people found nothing better than to set fire to their neighborhood.

THE firefighters intervened six times in the Soleil-Levant and Bouleaux-Platanes districts for arson linked to urban violence. Fires were lit on the Doullens road, containers were set on fire, street furniture was damaged and the window of a bus shelter was broken.

THE police officers from the Abbeville police station reinforced by crews from also intervened to put an end to these disturbances to public order.

Behavior denounced by the mayor Pascal Demarthe the day after his visit to his town’s barracks.

“The firefighters whom I went to greet on January 1st told me that individuals had thrown stones at them while they were putting out a fire. According to them, some were aged 12 to 14 years old…” laments the Abbeville mayor.

To light the fires, they used them on the building renovation site to essentially burn pallets. The main events took place on the Doullens road,” continues Pascal Demarthe.

The mayor of Abbeville indicates that he has made images from video surveillance cameras available to the police in order to identify and arrest the perpetrators of this urban violence.
