The Ballon d’Or: a source of debate
The Ballon d’Or has always been a subject of debate. Whether in 2000 with Figo, in 2004 with Nedvěd, in 2006 with Cannavaro or in 2010 with Lionel Messi, the choice of winner has often been controversial. “In my opinion, Vinicius would have deserved to win the Ballon d’Or. It was unfairI say it here in front of everyone. Rodri deserved it too, but I think they should have given it to Vinicius because he won the Champions League and he scored in the final.”
A sharp response from Rodri
Since his coronation, Rodri has been repeatedly criticized. The Manchester City midfielder should never have won this trophy, according to many people. Yet the Spaniard won the EURO by being a crucial player for his country. Moreover, he has become essential to Manchester City, to the point that the Citizens are struggling to regain their level without him.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s criticism did not please the Citizen, which rushed to respond and to put the i’s back on track.
“It’s really a surprise, because he knows better than anyone how this prize works and especially how the winner is chosen. This year, the journalists who voted thought I should win it. These are probably the same journalists who at one point voted for him to win, and I imagine at that point he agreed.“
