Two children were among 12 people killed in a mass shooting that began at a restaurant in the small town of Cetinje in Montenegro and continued to three different locations, authorities said. Four people were also seriously injured in the attack. The perpetrator of the shootings had already received a suspended sentence in 2005 for violent behavior. He was, according to various sources, heavily alcoholic.

The Montenegrin murderer was identified by police as Aleksandar Martinovic. He was seriously injured Thursday morning after turning the gun on himself and died from his injuries while being taken to hospital.

Montenegro’s National Security Council will now consider “all options” following the attack, including a total ban on weapons possession, the prime minister said, adding that the country would observe three days of national mourning .

This mass shooting is the second to have taken place in the last three years in Cetinje, the historic capital of Montenegro. An assailant had already killed 10 people, including two children, in August 2022, before being shot dead by a passerby, reports the Associated Press news agency.

Montenegro, which has a population of just over 620,000, is known for its gun culture and many people traditionally own weapons
