The American Reilly Opelka is back with his own style. Having fallen back to 293rd place in the world, he used his protected ranking to enter the table in Brisbane. Already very solid in the first round against FA Gomez, he dismissed the Italian Matteo Arnaldi (7-6 [9]7-6 [4]) in the round of 16. He advanced to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
Opelka will face the winner of the match between No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic of Serbia and Gael Monfils of France in the quarter-finals of the Brisbane Open.
The American giant had not won on the main circuit since July 30 in Washington. He seems to be back at a sufficient physical level to regain his best level (17th).
Arnaldi, 37th in the ATP world, beat Australian Alexei Popyrin, seeded No. 7, without difficulty in the first round (6-3, 6-2).
