    The psychological profile of the suspect becomes clearer

    Shamsud-Din Bahar Jabbar, the main suspect, is said to have become radicalized in recent years. Real estate agent and former soldier, the man had published videos on social networks indicating that he was inspired by the Islamic State armed group and testifying to a desire to kill.

    His brother, Abdur Jabbar, who confided in New York Timesspeaks rather of him asa sweetheart, a guy, a friend, very intelligent, caring. It said the suspect had converted to Islam at a young age.

    The man suspected of participating in the New Year's Eve attack in New Orleans served in the U.S. Army from 2007 to 2020, on active duty and in the reserves, a spokesperson told CNN army.

    Shamsud-Din Jabbar served as an active duty human resources specialist and information technology specialist from March 2007 to January 2015. During this time, he was deployed for a year to Afghanistan.

    After leaving active duty in January 2015, Jabbar served in the Army Reserve until July 2020. He had reached the rank of master sergeant.

    Furthermore, he allegedly made a series of videos before the attack, probably while he was driving from Texas to Louisiana.

    In these, he made particular reference to his divorce and his plans to reunite members of his family with the intention of killing them.

    The suspect also talked about how he changed his plans. He declared that he had joined theNO and spoke about the reasons behind this decision, according to CNN.

    At a press conference, New Orleans authorities confirmed that the mechanical barricades, installed around Bourbon Street, were malfunctioning and were being repaired in preparation for the Super Bowl scheduled for February 9.

    In their place, police cars and other barriers were placed in parts of Bourbon Street, but the attacker used the sidewalk to escape the barriers and charge into the crowd.

    We knew these systems were malfunctioning. So we had a plan, but the terrorist foiled itsaid Police Commissioner Anne Kirkpatrick.

    These barriers were installed in 2017 in the wake of the 2016 truck-ramming attack in Nice, France. These barriers can be electrically lowered or raised as needed.

    Louisiana Senator John Kennedy called on members of the federal government to catch those responsible for the deaths caused by the driver who drove into a crowd in New Orleans.

    Earlier during the press conference, an official from FBI said investigators do not believe the driver was the only one responsible and that the authorities were actively investigating all leads, including those of his known associates .
