Aurore Bergé deplores the “first feminicide of 2025”, after the death of a 51-year-old woman in the North

“This is the first feminicide of 2025, already one too many.“ A woman died in Hautmont (North) killed by her partner, announced Wednesday, January 1, the Minister responsible for Gender Equality. “Her name was Isabelle. She was 51 years old and was the mother of two children. She was killed this morning by her partner”wrote on X Aurore Bergé.

“The government’s determination is total to stem this scourge. And all means will be mobilized”she adds in this message, specifying that she will go there “in the next few days”. The prosecutor of Avesnes-sur-Helpe, Laurent Dumaine, explained in the afternoon that his prosecutor’s office had withdrawn from the investigation for the benefit of the prosecutor’s office. “due to the criminal jurisdiction of this jurisdiction”.

The mayor of Hautmont, for his part, deplored in a message on Facebook a tragedy which “reminds us of the urgency of fighting all forms of violence, in particular intra-family and marital violence”. “Our territory is unfortunately experiencing an increase in this violence”writes the elected official. In 2023, 96 women were victims of marital femicide in , a figure down 19% compared to 2022, according to the latest report from the Ministry of the Interior published at the end of November.
