In its vigilance bulletin, Météo-France placed around ten departments on yellow alert for a risk of “snow-ice”.
Will the start of 2025 be marked by a snowy episode? This is what the Météo-France forecasts suggest, which has placed the following departments on yellow snow-ice alert: Doubs, Haute-Saône, Haute-Marne, Meuse, Ardennes, Vosges, Haut-Rhin, Moselle and Meurthe-et-Moselle. The start of the episode is expected this Thursday, January 2, at midnight.
Will it snow, will it not snow? During the night from Wednesday to Thursday, a disturbance will infiltrate the East and “snow could fall on the plains”, Sébastien Léas, forecaster at Météo-France, explained to BFMTV.com.
“Unreliable” trends
However, the phenomenon is still difficult to predict, as noted by forecaster Guillaume Séchet on a deterioration in the “reliability of forecasts”.
In its latest projections, the agency sees “a few flakes” in the morning in Meurthe-et-Moselle and Aisne, before the phenomenon spreads to Haute-Marne at least in the afternoon.
“As the day goes on, snow will become widespread above 300 meters in the Grand Est with significant quantities of around 10 to 20 centimeters on the heights of the Vosges and Jura. It will rain significantly in Poitou -Charentes in Centre-Val de Loire and Burgundy”, we can read on the Météo-France website.
The evolution of the disturbance over the weekend could again “temporarily give rise to snowy precipitation in contact with cold air”, according to this same forecast bulletin.
