NFL crushes prime-time audiences in 2024: Super Bowl attracts millions, MLB is reborn!

America stays true to its sports in 2024

The 2024 prime-time viewing figures are in, and they clearly reveal that Americans are still passionate about sports. In fact, 75 of the 100 most-watched shows over the past year were sporting events, including the record-breaking Super Bowl LVIII.

The Super Bowl, pitting the Kansas City Chiefs against the San Francisco 49ers in February, drew huge crowds. More than 120 million viewers followed the Chiefs’ victory, propelling them to a second consecutive Lombardi. According to CBS, the show averaged 123.4 million viewers across all platforms.

NFL executives must be pleased to see that 45 of the league’s broadcasts made the Top 100 broadcasts. You have to go down to 12th position to find a non-sports program, a presidential debate broadcast by ABC which attracted 20.3 million viewers. The list also includes the Oscars and four episodes of CBS’ 60 Minutes.

Four of the five World Series games between the Dodgers and Yankees also appeared in these rankings, demonstrating the growing interest in baseball. On the other hand, for the first time, the men’s NCAA basketball championship failed to place in the Top 100, while the women’s final match was more successful.

This enthusiasm for the sport also translates into great success for the WNBA, driven by the remarkable performances of recruits Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese.

Finally, the Olympic Games were able to attract attention, while four of the five NBA Finals matches were also closely followed.
