New Year’s Eve turned into a tragedy for the driver of a scooter in Limay (Yvelines). It was around 10 p.m. when a man traveling on the D983 was violently hit from behind by a motorist. The car was traveling at 70 or 80 km/h and its driver apparently did not see the scooter at night on this unlit axis.
The victim, who is believed to be a painter based in this town near Mantes-la-Jolie, suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest after the collision. Immediately dispatched to the scene, the firefighters who came to rescue him managed to resuscitate him. The man was then taken care of by the Samu and transported to the Beaujon hospital center, in Clichy (Hauts-de-Seine) with a vital prognosis.
The year 2024 was marked by several serious accidents involving scooter drivers in Île-de-France. One of the most dramatic of these took place in Paris last May. A 2-year-old child was struck down by a car after falling while riding a scooter, in the 20th arrondissement. He remained in a coma for ten days. Three months earlier, a man had lost his life in Seine-Saint-Denis after a collision with a car, while a woman had to be airlifted to Seine-et-Marne.
According to a study by the Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP), based on data from anesthesia-intensive care services, scooter accidents more than doubled between 2019 and 2022. With severe trauma in 45.5% of cases.
