On January 1 at 7 a.m., Ukraine stopped the transportation of Russian natural gas through its territory in the interests of national security.
The Ukrainian Energy Ministry confirmed this information on its website.
Ukraine has duly informed its international partners of this decision.
“We have stopped the transit of Russian gas, which is a historic event. Russia is losing markets and will suffer financial losses. Europe has already decided to abandon Russian gas. The European initiative Repower EU envisions exactly what Ukraine has achieved today »underlined Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko.
-From January 1, 2025, Ukraine’s gas transportation system will operate without transit of Russian gas. According to the Ministry of Energy, the infrastructure was prepared in advance to operate in zero-transit conditions while ensuring reliable gas supply to Ukrainian consumers.
As a reminder, the European Commission previously confirmed that Europe was prepared to stop the transit of Russian gas through Ukrainian territory from January 1, 2025.
