After disappointing performances during the Next Gen Finals, Arthur Fils begins the Hong Kong tournament on Wednesday morning with a tricky round of 16 against Belgian Zizou Belge.
Eliminated during the group stage of the Next Gens Masters before Christmas, an exhibition tournament of which he was favorite which brings together the best players under 20 years old, Arthur Fils must already show something else this week in Hong Kong. The Frenchman, 20th player in the world, is seeded number 4 in the tournament and will be one of the contenders for final victory, provided he offers performances more in line with his talent. Exempted from the first round, Arthur Fils will enter the fray on Wednesday morning with a draw which was not kind with a first official meeting in 2025 against Zizou Bergs.
The Belgian made a name for himself last season by performing very well on clay and then during the second part of the season. Very comfortable from the baseline, the 71st player in the world still needs to raise his level a notch on hard, a surface where he can still improve. Opposed to the Spaniard from qualifying Alejandro Moro Canas, Zizou Bergs did not miss his debut by defeating his opponent in 2 sets. On paper, the Belgian will not be favorite against Arthur Fils, but this status suits him perfectly, he who has beaten quality players in recent months.
