A 28-year-old man died in hospital as a result of his injuries after refusing to comply with a police check in Avignon and hitting a median with his scooter, we learned on Tuesday from police sources and with the prosecution.
Police officers wanted to carry out a check because the man had “dangerous driving and excessive speed. He fled in the wrong direction on his scooter, ran several red lights and while turning he hit a median and then street furniture,” the Avignon prosecutor’s office told AFP.
Injured, he was transported to hospital where he died during the night, according to police sources and the prosecution.
“The first elements of the investigation are clear, he was not hit by the police car; this is confirmed by the videos, a witness and the findings on the vehicle,” said the prosecution.
