During this end-of-year period, the CHPF blood transfusion center needs more blood than the rest of the year. He is launching an urgent appeal for donations. All groups are essential, especially groups O and A.

“During this end-of-year period, we need an average of 25 to 30 people per day in our services. Today we have around twenty.” Doctor Chamillard, interim head of department of the blood transfusion center, is worried. Since mid-December, blood reserve stocks have been decreasing.

The service did receive a visit from 45 generous donors last Friday December 27, following a call for donations launched on social networks, but it is insufficient. Indeed, blood needs are daily because blood bags have a limited lifespan: it is 42 days for red blood cells and only 7 days for platelets. The CTS has stock which allows it a visibility of 15 days in normal operation. During this period, this stock is only 10 days, which could put the service in a difficult situation in the event of large and sudden demand.

The CTS accepts donations from everyone, with priority for people with groups O and A, because group O corresponds to the universal donor group and A is the most common blood group in Polynesia. The service is located at the CHPF, it is open tomorrow, Tuesday December 31, from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., is closed on Wednesday January 1, then resumes its usual hours on January 2, i.e. from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.
