Some did not wait until New Year's Eve to set cars on fire. For several days, at the end of December 2024, vehicles parked in districts of Strasbourg were targeted and caught fire.
According to the Bas-Rhin prefecture, CRS 8, specialized in the fight against urban violence, was called in for reinforcements and allowed the arrests of several individuals: three on December 27 then eleven the next day.
Sylvain André, spokesperson for the Alliance union in Bas-Rhin, mentions 25 cars set on fire in recent days, mainly in the districts of Koenigshoffen, Cronenbourg, Meinau and the city of Il. “Before New Year’s Eve, it’s worrying. OI'm afraid it will explode on New Year's Eve. This is the first year that we have had such an increase in incidents a few days before the 31st.he testifies.
In a press release, the union also reported “mortar fire on police officers and firefighters” in recent days. “When a car is set on fire, there is cooperation between the police and firefighters. We protect the area and the firefighters only intervene in the event of a police presence to avoid ambushes”continues Sylvain André.

It has gotten out of control. And even if we cooperate with our German colleagues, people continue to buy from across the border.”
