At least 85 people were killed after a passenger plane veered off course upon landing and crashed into the wall of Muan International Airport, South Korea, on Sunday.
The accident occurred after Jeju Air flight 7C2216, which was carrying 175 passengers and six crew members from Bangkok, Thailand, landed in Muan. All passengers, except two who were rescued by rescue teams, are considered dead by authorities on the ground.
“The entire government is investing all possible resources to deal with and investigate the crash,” Acting President Choi Sang-mok said. Boeing, the company that built the plane, offered its condolences to the families of the victims.
It was the second plane crash in days following one last week, when an Azerbaijan Airlines plane was apparently shot down by Russian air defenses in Kazakhstan while en route to Chechnya. The plane was carrying 72 passengers, 38 of whom were killed in the crash.
