At least 28 people were killed when a plane crashed on Sunday (December 29) at an airport in the southwest of the Republic of Korea, according to the Yonhap news agency and the local television station. YTN.

The airliner carrying 175 passengers and six crew members crashed while trying to land at Muan International Airport, about 290 km from the capital Seoul, around 9:07 a.m. local time (00:07 GMT ).
Jeju Air Flight 7C2216 from Bangkok, Thailand left the runway and crashed into the exterior wall. Its fuselage was cut in two and caught fire.
The accident was apparently caused by a collision with birds which caused a malfunction of the landing gear.
The fire was extinguished approximately 43 minutes later, and approximately 80 firefighters were dispatched to the scene.
The police and firefighters intervened in the rescue operations from the rear of the plane.
