Next January could be marked by the appearance of two atmospheric depressions during the first decade, leading to snowfall in the central-western regions and heavy rains, particularly in the north of the country, according to forecasts. by Amer Bahba, meteorology expert and natural hazards researcher.
And in parallel with this cold wave which is currently hitting Tunisia, the shortage of gas bottles is becoming a major problem on the local market.
Mohamed Mnif, president of the National Chamber of Gas Distributors, explained that this situation results from the late arrival of an Algerian ship at the port of Bizerte, carrying 5,000 tons of liquefied gas.
The ship, which remained blocked due to difficult weather conditions, finally allowed the distribution of 2,600 bottles in the Bizerte region, the remaining quantities to be sent to Rades, pending the arrival of new cargoes.
Mnif clarified that the gas stock in Bizerte was sufficient for only five days, and that the distribution center could not continue operating after the sixth day if no new shipments arrived.
He expressed hope that this situation would not recur, stressing that Tunisians’ daily consumption could reach 200,000 bottles during the high season.
Currently, there are seven distribution centers distributed between Rades (three centers), Ghanouch (three centers) and Bizerte (one center).
