The forty-year-old suspected of being the author of the fatal shooting which occurred on Monday in a bar in the Corsican city was imprisoned on Friday. The funeral of the victim is due to take place this Saturday, December 28.
A man suspected of the fatal shooting against a firefighter in a busy bar in the center of Ajaccio on Monday evening was indicted on Friday December 27 for murder and intentional violence and imprisoned, we learned from the Ajaccio public prosecutor’s office. Six people were also injured in the shooting at the Le Lamparo bar.
After fleeing, the suspect, in his forties, finally went to the police station on Christmas Day. His lawyers, Mes Philippe Gatti and Paul Sollacaro, did not wish to make comments on Friday evening.
The “trail of a private dispute between the author of the shots and the victim” is privileged, the prosecutor indicated on Tuesday.
The accused is already known to the courts. In June 2016, he appeared before the Bouches-du-Rhône Assize Court, in Aix-en-Provence, which sentenced him to 30 months in prison for receiving a vehicle and acquitted him of criminal association in the trial of the assassination of Yves Manunta, killed on July 9, 2012 in Ajaccio.
“Significant risk of recurrence”
In Corsica, the fatal shootings at the Le Lamparo bar, just before Christmas, aroused great emotion. Many businesses in the center of Ajaccio had lowered their curtains for forty-eight hours. The Lamparo was closed for two months by prefectural decree in the face of “the repetition of serious criminal acts within a short period of time”, but also in the face of “significant risk of reiteration”.
On the night of November 15 to 16, the boss of Lamparo was hit by two shots in the leg in front of his establishment, without his life being in danger. A man was remanded in custody for attempted homicide.
