Still not extended by FC Barcelona, Frenkie de Jong's clan is already testing the waters for the future.
Weighed down for several months by an injury to the malleolus, Frenkie de Jong (27) only made his comeback on October 1 with FC Barcelona, against Young Boys in the LDC (5-0). In total, the midfielder played 13 matches in this first part of the season, including only 2 starts. Under contract until 2026, the Dutch player has still not extended, and may well not return to Catalonia at all.
de Jong's agent speaks
According to AS, de Jong's agent is even sounding out the market for the rest of the international's career. If his name is associated in England, more precisely with Manchester United, the de Jong clan would prefer… Saudi Arabia! Ali Dursun, the player's representative, spoke with Saudi clubs to learn about the league's progress.
But the latter immediately denied: “The information concerning a departure for Saudi Arabia makes no sense. This distracts Frenkie from what he really wants: to shine at Barça, the club he loves the most. Who knows, maybe Barça and Frenkie will stay together for a long time,” he commented to Fabrizio Romano.
Liverpool in the race
But that's not all, because in the Premier League, Liverpool have reportedly shown serious interest in signing de Jong, according to TEAMtalk. As well as discussions over contract extensions for key players like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, the Reds could strengthen in midfield, with de Jong at the top of the list.
If his extension with Barça were to fail, the Catalans would be willing to sell their player for around 35 million euros, much less than the amounts requested previously. However, the main obstacle remains de Jong's salary demands, considered too high by Liverpool. The player will have to accept a significant reduction in his salary for the transfer to be possible. If Liverpool remains attentive to the Dutchman's situation, the current PL leader also continues to explore other options for his midfielder.
