Nearly a million new ads have been recorded on the Rakuten France platform since December 25.
Disappointed with your gifts? You are not the only ones. This year again, the day after Christmas, the resale sites were taken over by the French. According to Rakuten France, nearly a million new ads have been recorded on the platform since December 25.
“Anchored in consumption habits, the resale of gifts reflects a lasting transformation in behavior. The French now prefer to give a second life to their objects, combining savings and commitment to more responsible consumption,” analyzes the resale platform. In 2023, the resale of gifts allowed each reseller to recover 100 euros on average, a figure which should be reached or exceeded again this year.
4 out of 10 French people ready to resell their gifts
According to the latest Rakuten France barometer carried out with Ipsos, 4 out of 10 French people plan to resell a gift this year. The inhabitants of Occitanie are in the top 3 gift resellers, just after Île-de-France and before New Aquitaine.
Among the most resold products this year, we find the book Houris by Kamel Daoud, winner of the 2024 Goncourt Prize, the game God of War for PS5, the 2nd generation Airpods Pro, the essential Chanel n° 5 and the timeless Puissance 4.
The most popular categories for resale are cultural products (books, video games, music, DVDs) at 79%. These products are requested for resale by people aged 42 to 56 (39%), followed very closely by those aged 57 to 77 (35%). Next come high-tech products (televisions, smartphones, computers) at 12% and home products (household appliances, board games).
