During the Global Soccer Awards ceremony, Cristiano Ronaldo spoke on the subject of the Ballon d'Or. Five-time winner of the Ballon d'Or, the football player said on Friday December 27 that he was “unfair“that the Brazilian Vinicius Jr. did not get the award this year.
The prestigious prize was awarded on October 28 to Manchester City's Spanish midfielder Rodri, who beat the Real Madrid striker during a ceremony in Paris boycotted by the Madrid club.
“In my opinion he deserved to win the Ballon d'Or“, declared Cristiano Ronaldo during the Global Soccer Awards ceremony. “It was unfair, I say it here in front of everyone”, continued the Portuguese striker, who has been playing since January 2023 at Al-Nassr, in the Saudi championship, after playing from 2009 to 2018 at Real.
“They gave it to Rodri, who deserved it too, but I think they should have given it to Vinicius because he won the Champions League,” said Ronaldo, 39.
The Ballon d'Or is awarded by an international jury of 100 specialist journalists from a list of 30 players named in September.
