Monstrous at Christmas, Victor Wembanyama nevertheless remains at the heart of the debates because of his high volume of three-point shots. An American site, however, decided to dot the i's on this subject, after his performance against New York.
It's a shame that the victory was not over for Spurs, because that would have magnified the performance of Victor Wembanyama at the Christmas Game. Unstoppable at Christmas on the Knicks floor, the French pivot destroyed everything in his path with 42 points, 18 rebounds and four blocks. Enough to make your opponents hallucinate.
An American site goes straight on Victor Wembanyama
With a very decent 6/16 behind the arc, the Alien also proved that he didn't take so many award-winning shots per game for nothing (9.5 attempts on average). And if this still bothers a good number of observers, others are now convinced that he is right to proceed in this way… and that he should even go even further. The famous American site ClutchPoints also expressed himself on this subject via his X account:
“Why is he shooting three-pointers? He’s 2m24 tall. Go into painting. That’s what’s wrong with the NBA.” If you're a Victor Wembanyama fan, you should want him to shoot as many three-pointers as possible NOW. At 20 years old, shot selection is not Wemby's priority, just like winning is not the Spurs' priority. The aim is to make Wemby as unstoppable as possible, for as long as possible.

At 20 years old, it's clear that Wemby is already a top 10 caliber player. But he can become the No. 1 player for over a decade by eliminating all of his weaknesses. If you can shoot three-pointers, you can shoot mid-range. If you can shoot three-pointers, you can improve your touch from everywhere. If you can shoot three-pointers, you can create space. If you can shoot three-pointers, you can extend your career. If you know how to shoot three-pointers, you can become unpredictable.
And if you're 2m24 tall and you know how to shoot three-pointers, you can become impossible to defend. When Victor Wembanyama reaches physical maturity, he will increase the number of his passes in the paint. But when teams take the paint away from him, his response will be to play on the perimeter. The volume of three-point shots helps build that counterattack.
Just because he's 7'2″ doesn't mean Wemby shouldn't shoot three-pointers. This is even a reason why he should take more. You may not agree with this philosophy. But what you can't argue with is that Wemby, shooting three-pointers, is literally, physically impossible to defend.
Victor Wembanyama has proven it recently, his large volume of outside shots should pose less and less of a problem as his skill continues to increase. But above all, ClutchPoints believes that it is good to insist so much on three points, since this should allow him to be as complete as possible and play longer.
