The Saint-Étienne Sports Association got off to a very poor start to its championship after its return to Ligue 1. The first consequence of these difficult starts was the dismissal of Olivier Dall'Oglio, the coach of the Greens. Thus, the new Saint-Etienne coach, Eirik Horneland, will have a lot of work to do to get ASSE back on track. Indeed, the predictions are bad for ASSE!
Although it is still too early to make predictions on the place that Saint-Étienne will occupy at the end of the championship, the statistics do however give a small trend. OptaJean has revealed the prediction of the final ranking of the Ligue 1 championship for this season. We might as well say it right away, Saint-Étienne does not appear in a very favorable position.
Paris Saint-Germain is predicted as French champion by 96.2%. Its runner-up, Marseille, has a 31.4% chance of finishing 2nd. Monaco and Lille could, however, compete for this second place with OM, according to the prediction. Next come teams accustomed to the top of the ranking, notably Lyon, Nice and Lens.
Small surprise, however: Auxerre, which has just been promoted to Ligue 1, appears in 8th position. This proves that a promoted person can have a good first season in Ligue 1…
ASSE in the wrong car…
If we look at the bottom of the ranking, unsurprisingly, Montpellier finds itself in last position. Laurent Nicollin's men have a 25.4% chance of finishing 18th. Just ahead of them, Le Havre also seems well positioned to occupy 17th place with a 25.3% probability. Angers, in difficulty since the start of the championship, would be ranked 15th and would have a better chance of not being affected by relegation than Saint-Étienne.
Indeed, with a 20.5% chance of finishing 16th, the Greens do not obtain a very favorable prediction. However, in this poorly ranked group, five teams could play very close until the end of the season: Nantes, Angers, Saint-Étienne, Le Havre and Montpellier. While Nantes is still looking for a coach and Montpellier has already changed its own, Saint-Étienne has just appointed Eirik Horneland to try to redress the situation.
News which delights the Green People and could revive Saint-Étienne in this championship. Enough to make predictions and statistics lie: data is one thing, but reality can be another.
