Exiled in Russia, Asma al-Assad, the wife of the former Syrian president, is said to be seriously affected by leukemia. An illness which follows a first cancer, cured in 2019.

Her husband deposed, she had to leave Syria a few weeks ago. According to The Telegraph, Asma al-Assad, wife of Bashar al-Assad, is said to be isolated in the Russian capital on doctors' orders. His state of health is worsening, so much so that they would have only given him “50 %” chances of survival.

“Asma is dying.” “She can't be in the same room as anyone (because of her health),” sources close to the couple indicated, wishing to remain anonymous.

Breast cancer in 2019

The announcement of this illness came last May, from the Syrian presidency. “After presenting various clinical symptoms and signs, and following a series of medical examinations, the first lady was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia.”

A few years earlier, in August 2019, Asma al-Assad announced that she was completely cured of breast cancer, after a year of treatment.
