Azerbaijan believes Russian missile caused plane crash in Kazakhstan

Azerbaijani authorities believe, according to national media, as does an American official who spoke on condition of anonymity, that the Russian air defense system caused the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines plane in Kazakhstan on Wednesday, killing 38 people. None of the countries involved have yet publicly confirmed this version, and Russia earlier warned against “hypotheses” made before the end of the investigation. The authorities of Kazakhstan, a close ally of Russia, also denounced “speculations”. This Embraer 190 aircraft with 67 people on board was flying on Wednesday between Baku, capital of Azerbaijan, and Grozny, capital of the Russian Caucasian republic of Chechnya. It crashed under circumstances that are still unclear and caught fire near Aktau, a port on the Caspian Sea. Our article.

Airstrikes attributed to Israel targeted several sites in Yemen on Thursday, including the Sanaa international airport and a power plant, controlled by the Houthi rebels, leaving at least 3 dead and 11 injured. The head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, was at Sanaa airport during the bombing and said he was “safe and sound” on X. A crew member of his plane was, however, injured. Israel confirmed the raids and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that his country would continue to strike the Houthis “until the job is finished”.
