A group of men from the still little-known Massaco people were photographed in the Amazon rainforest in Brazil.
They are a people whose existence we did not know. Their hair is black, their skin dark, they wear no clothes. To mark their territory in the heart of the Amazon forest, they use stakes that they plant in the ground. These are the Massacos.
Unpublished photos were captured between 2019 and 2024 by automatic cameras installed in the Amazon, in the northwest of Brazil, in the state of Rondônia. Their language, beliefs and real name remain mysteries.
It is one of 28 uncontacted indigenous communities in the Brazilian Amazon, without any interaction with the outside world. This policy was put in place in the country to protect them. In 2017, another isolated community was spotted in the same Amazon rainforest using drone footage.
