Elon Musk admits to using medication to lose weight. In a photo of himself dressed as Santa Claus, the billionaire appears to have lost weight and nicknames himself “Ozempic Santa”, in reference to this popular drug originally created to treat serious illnesses, but which in Hollywood and the surroundings, is used by those who can afford it to effortlessly achieve a healthy weight.
Musk says he uses the drug called Mounjaro, which has the same principle as Ozempic, because it “has fewer side effects and is more effective.”
The billionaire has long argued that drugs like Ozempic can help combat America’s obesity epidemic. A position that pits him against Robert F. Kennedy Jr, who is convinced that a healthy diet is the least expensive key to combating this problem.
Ozempic and other drugs in the same class, like Mounjaro, are approved by the Food and Drug Administration for diabetes (other drugs like Zepbound and Wegovy have also been given a green light for weight loss), but they are also frequently prescribed over the counter.
They are also very expensive drugs and rarely covered by health insurance, so access to them is limited to those who can afford to pay a thousand dollars a month, the price of four weekly injections.
